LYNN LAUNCH YOUTH TEAM
The King’s Lynn Speedway management team have announced that they will enter a team into the British National League for a second successive season in 2010, they have also decided that the team will forge a much closer link with the senior Stars team and have therefore renamed them the ‘Young Stars’.
Club Promoter, Keith Chapman said ‘Last year we tried to keep the tie with the ex Boston team by calling them the Barracudas but this didn’t really work out, I don’t think either set of fans felt like the team belonged to them and it was therefore stuck somewhere in the middle. So this year we have cut the tie and brought the team totally under the Stars umbrella, ok the new name is not groundbreaking but it doesn’t need to be, since my involvement at the football club I have noticed that football teams don’t have different nicknames for their reserve or junior teams, and I believe this plays a big part in allowing the fans to relate to the team easier and also helps the riders feel like they are serving an apprenticeship for the senior team’.
Dale Allitt reveals that the title ‘Young Stars’ also indicates the way they plan to build the team ‘this team is here to give young talent a chance to shine, I would class anyone under the age of 25 as still having the chance of progressing further in their career and that is surely what this league should be about. Last year we started the season with the weakest team on paper but still managed to finish mid table, this year will probably be no different but having young talent gives us and the fans a team to get behind and something exciting to shout about, especially when we take on teams that have been built on a win at all costs budget using riders that have already reached the top of their career!’
The season will kick off on Easter weekend against Scunthorpe, with the home leg on Saturday and the away leg on Monday, then the following Saturday the Young Stars will take on the American Dream.
The club have also reduced the admission prices for the National League meetings to only £8 for adults, £6 for concessions and £3 for 12-15 year olds, kids 11 years and under will remain free, this will hopefully encourage regular Stars fans to also come and support the Young Stars.
Team news will hopefully be following soon and the Young Stars are also looking for a main team sponsor for the 2010 season, please contact the management team on 01553 771111 if you wish to register your interest.
